Almost all of the companies here in the Philippines are using windows operating system to operate their business and also in the educational purposes. The reason is it is easy to use, but because of the licensing of windows Operating system and its Office application some of the IT school is adapting open source as their operating system because it’s a free Operating system and free application. Students in different IT schools are now familiar with using linux based operating system. Based on my survey in one of the IT School here in the Philippines some students taking IT course because they really want to study about computer hacking and one the best Operating System to study is the backtrack 5 which is a linux based operating system. Linux is a platform of hackers and one of the greatest operating system develops for penetration is the Backtrack 5. It is known specialized in Linux distribution that focused on penetration of security. Many of IT engineers using this operating system because of its features and built in tools in Backtrack 5. One of the advantages of Backtrack 5 is that it offers forensic tools on a live, CD or DVD and USB. It is ready to use. Downloading for 32 bit or 64 bit distribution of ISO files for backtracks is available on their website. Backtrack 5 can burn it in to a CD or DVD, Some tool and application are also downloadable online to store Backtrack in a flash drive one of this is the inetbootin. Inetboot in is used to extract the Backtrack 5 ISO files to a flash drive. Backtrack is contains a collection of more than 300 open source information security tools which is organized in different menus and submenus for backtrack. These are the Backtrack menu: “Information Gathering”, “Vulnerability Assessment”, “Exploitation Tools”, “Privilege Escalation”, “Maintaining Access”, “Reverse Engineering”, “RFID Tools”, “Stress Testing”, “Forensics”, “Reporting Tools”, “Services”, and “Miscellaneous”. Almost all tools need in penetration is integrated in backtrack 5. These are tools that is contained in backtrack 5: Metasploit integration, Rfmon wireless drivers, kismet, AutoScan-Network, Nmap, Ettercap, Wireshark,Enumeration, Exploit rachives,scanners, password attacks, fuzzers, spoofing, sniffers, tunneling,wireless tools, Bluetooth, cisco tools, database tools, forensic tools, backtrack services, reversing, misc and addition to backtrack network tools it include Mozilla, pidgin, k3b,exmms and others.
